Amanha Spa, Orchid Garden Hotel: Foot Reflexology $25

There was a roadshow promotion in Kiulap and Amanha Spa was giving out gift certificates for their spa services. I was lucky to get one. So I rushed to Orchid Garden Hotel in Anggerek Desa to check out the venue and the available treatments. The area was tranquil compared to Gadong or Kiulap and was a good spa destination to get away from the hectic life.

As I went to Level 2 and head to spa, I went to the spa reception to ask about the available treatments and whether I could use the gift certificate. The receptionist was rather cold in demeanour and was rather busy with doing stapling some papers – I literally do not know what she is doing with them. And there I was thinking hotel based spas are much more better in customer service with the hotel training and all. Anyway with the $20 gift voucher in hand, I chose the foot reflexology $25 so I only have to put down $5 for the 30-40 minute treatment.

Based from the leaflets given out at the roadshow, I make out comfy brown leathered massage seats and subdued lighting just perfect for the ultimate tranquillity and induce calm to customers. However, don’t be induced by nice pictures from the leaflets. Yes, as pictured, the comfy leather massage seats were present however I was wrong with the ambience of the massage area. What you did not see is, the lighting which came from the bar area which was fluorescent white ruining the spa experience and the televisions which stuck on the walls and the sound that come from it! There should not be televisions to be found in spas. Period. I get the feeling that the massage area used to be a bar or restaurant of some sort and then was converted to a spa afterwards.

The reflexology massage was however decent and good. I enjoy the masseuse, he gave the right amount of pressure and emphasise pressure at certain areas of the foot and even gave a complimentary head and shoulder massage. Although one improvement I will recommend is to invest in different aromatherapy massage oils rather than using Johnson’s & Johnson’s baby oil which is not suitable for a hotel based spa in my opinion.

Overall the massage was good but the interior and massage oil spoils the ambience and “feel” of the spa. For a no frills good foot reflexology and privacy, I’d suggest Amanha Spa in Anggerek Desa.

Verdict: 5/10
